What is the Course About?

Completing this programme will enable you to qualify as an Early Years Practitioner and to be counted in the level 3 staff:child ratios in early years settings. CACHE is the leading awarding organisation in the care sector.

Who is the course aimed at?

Anyone working or volunteering within a childcare setting who is wanting to gain a qualification and progress.

What will you study?

You will explore a variety of topics which are structured around the following themes:

Health and well-being

Legislation, frameworks and professional practice

Play, development and learning for school readiness

Knowledge and skills you will develop

How to provide high quality care and education for children aged 0 – 5 years

How to develop and implement risk assessments and follow legislation relating to the health and safety of children

How to demonstrate best practice and act as a positive role model for children

How to follow principles for equality, diversity and inclusion

How to safeguard and protect children

How to promote and support children’s physical care routines and emotional well-being

How to plan and assess children’s learning and development in relation to the EYFS

How to support children’s additional needs

To be able to take responsibility for own development of skills and knowledge and engage in professional development

To understand the importance of play in the early years

To be able to support children’s transitions

Length of course

Typically 12 – 18 months

How will the course be delivered?

Attendance at UCM is required one afternoon a week for one academic year. The competency requirements will largely be delivered in the workplace environment via one to one tutorials and planning meetings and assessor visits.

Entry requirements

Learners should be at least 16 years old and may wish to undertake additional study towards Maths and English if they do not already have these at GCSE grade C/4 or above
