Certificate in General Manufacturing Engineering (City & Guilds 2850 Level 3)
What is the Course About?
This level 3 Diploma is aimed at candidates working in the engineering industry and who already hold the Level 2 qualification or have relevant experience. The course is designed to allow the candidate to specialise in an area of engineering relating to their job role. The course is a two year course which will require attendance at the William Kennish Building one day per week over the two years. This is normally 9.00am to 4.30pm
What subjects will I study?
To achieve the City & Guilds level 3 2850 Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering, the candidate will need to complete 6 units over the 2 years. The course structure includes 2 mandatory units, 1 principles unit and 3 optional units
Course Structure:
• Mandatory unit 1: Working Effectively & Safely in an Engineering Environment
• Mandatory unit 2: Engineering Principles and Practice
• Principle Units: Principles of Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering
• Optional units: CAD, Turning, Milling and Fitting
The two machining units are based on manual machining
What are my progression and career options?
Successful completion of the Level 3 Diploma can lead to studying the OCR Cambridge Technical Foundation Diploma.
How will I be assessed?
The mandatory and principle units are assessed by on-line multi-choice exams or written exam. The practical units are assessed by a practical assignment and a short written text.
Entry requirements
Successful completion of the City & Guilds 2850 Level 2 Certificate or any relevant qualification. Mature candidates will be interviewed which may include an assessment test, relevant experience will also be taken into account.
