What is the Course About?

This one-year course will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work competently as an advanced beauty therapist specialising in massage.

Training is undertaken in a modern training suite with highly qualified tutors who have many years’ experience within the beauty and holistic industries in addition to an expert knowledge of teaching and assessing Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) qualifications, ensuring you achieve the highest level of training and maximum employment opportunities in this fast-growing beauty therapy industry.

What subjects will I study?

Anatomy & Physiology

Planning promotional events

•Monitoring salon health and safety alongside all the following practical treatments: -

•Swedish massage, including G5 gyratory massage and Audio Sonic and Infra-Red treatment

•Pre-blend aromatherapy massage

•Stone therapy massage

•Indian head massage

•Facial electrotherapy or monitoring spa treatments

Days and hours of attendance

Full time over 3 days

Timetable will be given at the beginning of the course

Specialist uniform and/or kit required

You will be required to purchase a uniform consisting of two tunics and 1 pair of black trousers and a pair of flat black enclosed shoes. You may find it useful to have a mobile massage couch for practice and case studies outside of college.

What Happens Next

1. Once you apply online, we will send you an email so you know we have received your application.

2. If you are new to UCM, you will be asked to attend an Information Sharing Appointment (ISA) when you find out more about UCM and the course you've applied for, and we find out more about you.

After your ISA, we will either:

make you an unconditional offer (i.e. a definite place on the course);

make you a conditional offer (i.e. a place on the course IF you get the results required in the summer exams);

•place you on a waiting list, if the course is already full (if this is the case, we will also advise you to apply for another course, just in case);

•suggest you apply for another course because the one you have applied for is not suitable for you.

Once you have a place, you will be asked in to enrol in person.

What are my progression and career options?

You may decide to enhance your skills by learning to provide other holistic therapies. Employment opportunities include becoming a beauty or massage therapist worldwide in commercial salons, spas or cruise ships. You would also have the option of becoming a mobile massage therapist, or a lecturer in a college or university.

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments are carried out throughout the year in the purpose-built training salons using high quality, professional products, while the underpinning knowledge is checked through oral questions, case studies, assignments and online exams. Evidence is compiled into an e-portfolio, which can be viewed and amended from any smartphone, tablet or computer.

Entry requirements

Beauty Therapy (Level 2) qualification or three GCSEs, grade 4 (C) or above, including Maths and English.

It is essential to have: -
