What is the Course About?

This qualification focuses on direct chair-side work and support during a range of dental treatments. It encompasses the underpinning ethics, professionalism, teamwork and communication required to work as a Dental Nurse. Methods of teaching will include lectures, small and large group work and independent research, demonstration of practical skills and experience in the workplace.

What are my progression and career options?

Completion of this qualification will enable learners to register with the General Dental Council and find employment as a Dental Nurse. Learners may then progress to qualifications in the following areas
-Dental sedation
-Dental radiography
-Dental technology
-Oral health education
-Special care dental nursing
-Orthodontic nursing
-Dental practice management

How will I be assessed?

Classroom activities and work based assessment to produce a portfolio of competence. In addition to a portfolio, candidates will also undertake an external written examination “ The Award in Dental Nursing”

Entry requirements

You need to be employed/volunteering in a Dental Practice and working chair side for a minimum of 21 hours per week.
