General studies provides a brilliant opportunity for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities to develop life and work skills. We at UCM have valuable connections with employers and can offer work opportunities within our very own Annie Gill Coffee Bar.
Students will work towards the essential skills required for work such as time management, improved communication skills, awareness of danger, taking responsibility and recognising cause and effect. We also have strong links with outside agencies and work with them to provide the best outcomes for learners of all abilities. Students may also work towards nationally-recognised qualifications.
Vocational studies open up opportunities for those learners who achieved less than four grade Ds at GCSE. The course involves working towards transferable work skills as well as providing options to try different vocational programme areas in College. This course may lead to new interests and opportunities to progress onto level 2 programmes or move into employment. The course lasts for one year and includes literacy and numeracy skills.
