Thermal Auricular Therapy (VTCT Award Level 2) (Starts 21/22)

What is the Course About?

This intensive course has been specifically designed to help develop your basic knowledge and practical skills in the ancient and natural therapy of ear candling treatments.

The qualification consists of three units:

  • Follow health and safety practice in the salon - this unit will increase your understanding of health and safety and its importance in a salon.

  • Client care and communication in beauty-related industries - this unit will develop your communication skills to manage consultations, complaints, client comfort and all forms of client care. You will develop a client-centred approach to all of your treatments.

  • Provide thermal auricular therapy - this unit will enable you to provide safe and effective ear candling treatments to clients. You will also learn about the possible benefits of ear candling treatments and how to carry out safe and hygienic working methods.

What are my progression and career options?

Employment opportunities as a mobile or freelance thermal auricular therapist in cruise ships or salons worldwide. You may want to enhance your knowledge and skills by undertaking courses on other holistic treatments.

How will I be assessed?

Your assessor will observe a minimum of three practical ear candling treatments within the Synnova Training Salon at UCM. Case studies will be completed in your own time with a minimum of nine treatments, which must include three clients, each receiving three ear candling treatments. The underpinning knowledge is assessed through observations and supplemented with online multiple-choice exams, oral questions and written work. Evidence of work is compiled into your portfolio.

Entry requirements

  • There are no formal entry requirements, however, you should be:

    • working within the beauty, hairdressing or holistic therapies industry and

    • have access to the Internet to upload evidence to your e-portfolio.

You will be required to purchase a uniform, basic kit and equipment to enable you to complete the case studies and assessments, and are additional fees for this course.
