We're pleased to be working in collaboration with the Manx NFU on the following agricultural courses for adult learners. City & Guilds Level 2 Tractor Driving & Related Operations

If you use a tractor this qualification will help you prove your ability as part of your work in agriculture, horticulture or other industries The minimum age limit for candidates taking this qualification is 16 years. This does not replace any legal requirement for a driving licence. It covers safe driving of a tractor, pre-use maintenance, safety checks and recognition of controls and instruments. The test of covers the use of the tractor in a range of situations: driving safely and correctly around a suitable course (including reversing with a trailer), trailer hitching, attaching 3-point linkage and Power Take Off (PTO) driven attachments. There is an optional unit that covers the use of a tractor fitted with a front-end loader.

City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Safe Transport of Animals (Short Journey)

If you are involved in the transportation of animals by road on short journeys (over 65km and up to 8 hours duration) this qualification will ensure you meet the requirement for a Certificate of Competence outlined in the Council Regulation (EC) No1/2005 on the Protection of Animals During Transport and the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 2006. The qualification is species specific (e.g. cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, horses, game birds). It covers the legal requirements, journey planning, vehicle suitability, fitness to travel, causes and signs of stress in animals, space allowances, stocking densities, handling and animal welfare in transit and post journey
requirements.

City & Guilds Level 2 Preparing a tractor for Hedge Trimming

This course teaches you to prepare a tractor for hedge/verge cutting by mounting  and then operating a hedge cutter to a tractor. City & Guilds Level 2 accredited. 8 hours teaching followed by a practical assessment.

City & Guilds Level 2 Telehandler Award

This qualification will appeal to those who use a forklift as part of their work in agriculture, horticulture or distribution and warehousing. It has been developed to cover the “basic training” requirements of the Approved Code of Practice for Rider Operated Forklift Trucks. This does not replace any legal requirement for a driving licence. Candidates can choose the type of forklift for assessment: Rough Terrain Masted Forklift or Telescopic Forklift. The assessment covers the associated differences between use, operation and maintenance of the machines, pre-use maintenance and safety checks, recognition of controls and instruments.

City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Basic Stockmanship & Welfare

If you work in the livestock industry, then this qualification will help you gain recognition of your skills. It covers legislation, well being of stock, routine stockmanship duties, and an understanding of health and safety issues relating to yourself, other people and the environment when working with livestock.
