Initial Teacher Training

If you would like to undertake an Initial Teacher Training (ITT) to become a primary or secondary school teacher, you can find information about off-Island routes into teaching on the Get into Teaching website.

Questions around eligibility for funding for these off-Island teacher training courses can be made via the DESC Student Awards Team.

The Island’s secondary schools offer two school-based ITT schemes for a small number of candidates in subject areas which are difficult to recruit using the Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (assessment only) route or the Certificate in Education/Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) route. Both of these routes require candidates to be a graduate in the relevant subject area and currently employed by the school. Vacancies for these training places are advertised through the Isle of Man Government’s Jobtrain website, as and when they arise.
