Lynne O’Brian, a Digital Enterprise Lecturer at University College Isle of Man (UCM) was awarded International Association of Bookeepers’ (IAB) Tutor of the YEAR at the 2020 IAB International Association of Accounting Professionals (IAAP) Business and Skills Awards.
The prestigious ceremony celebrates excellence in the industry of bookkeeping, accountancy and payroll, and those who are selected as winners, are seen to go ‘above and beyond’ for their clients, students and their studies.
Nominees can nominate themselves or be nominated, and following this, an experienced judging panel reviews evidence and examples of their work. Lynne was nominated by her students.
Those shortlisted were then interviewed by the judges and from there, the winners and runners-up were selected.
The IAB and IAAP annual awards were due to be hosted by Lord Palmer of Child’s Hill at the House of Lords on 18th March 2020. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, the awards’ ceremony was unfortunately cancelled.
The awards ceremony may have been cancelled, but the IAB and IAAP were insistent that the successful nominees be awarded and celebrated for their excellent achievements.
Janet Jack, Chief Executive Officer of the IAB explained, “Bookkeepers, accountants and those carrying out payroll are often in the background of a business, and these awards give us all a chance to celebrate them and bring them to the fore. Despite the ceremony being cancelled, we wanted to give the winners something to be happy about in these strange times and to recognise their contribution to the industry and their clients. Congratulations to all and hopefully see you next year!”
Lynne, who received her award through the post, expressed her elation over the recognition, “I am thrilled to have received this prestigious award! I love what I do and cannot thank the students enough for nominating and voting for me. This award makes all the hard work worth it. It’s a shame that we couldn’t go to the House of Lords for the ceremony but there’s always next year!”
