Anyone looking to boost their UCAS points and develop valuable academic and employability skills are encouraged to enrol on the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) at UCM (University College Isle of Man).
Equivalent to half an A-level and worth up to 28 UCAS points, the EPQ is recognised by universities and employers as an excellent preparation for higher education and future careers. The qualification allows students to undertake an independent research project on a topic of their choosing, helping them explore personal interests or extend their current studies.
Delivered over 24 weeks, the course combines weekly taught sessions which provide learners with the underpinning knowledge and skills to undertake the in-depth research project. Expert lecturers are on hand to provide additional support and guidance. Learners develop skills in research, academic writing, project management, critical thinking, self-reflection and presentation. Projects are self-led, with learners completing around 120 hours of study and research.
Assessment includes a production log, a 5,000-word report (or 1,000-word report plus artefact), and a presentation to a non-specialist audience.
The first two cohorts are well-underway on this course, with applications for the next intake opening soon.
More information, including how to apply, is available on the UCM website.
