What is the Course About?
This Level 2 course is an inspiring introduction to the world of counselling. Whether you’re exploring counselling as a career or looking to enhance your ability to support others, this course provides a valuable foundation.
By the end, you will have a clear understanding of:
• How to reflect on your own personal development and identify areas to grow
• Core counselling skills, including how to build a supportive helping relationship and how to bring a helping interaction to a respectful close
• The main theoretical approaches used in counselling
• The importance of diversity and the impact discrimination can have on individuals
Will I need a DBS check for this course?
No, you will not need a DBS check for this course.
Will I need any specific resources, uniform and/or kit?
No, you will not need any specific uniform or kit.
What are the days and hours of the course?
This is a part-time evening course of two hours per week over 20 weeks. Days of the week are to be confirmed.
Will I undertake a work placement as part of the course?
No, however you will have lots of opportunities to build employability skills, and your lecturers have worked in the industry, which means you will benefit from their experience.

What are my progression and career options?
Completing the SEG Level 2 Award in Counselling Skills often leads to the SEG Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills. This certificate, or an equivalent qualification, is usually required to progress onto the SEG Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
If you choose not to continue into further counselling study, the skills you gain are still highly transferable. Many learners apply these skills in careers such as health and social care, education, mental health support, community work, coaching, or supervisory roles where communication and empathy are essential.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment involves a combination of written assignments and observed practical sessions, giving you the chance to demonstrate your knowledge and practise your counselling skills in a supportive environment.
Entry requirements
There are no entry requirements for this course. While English and Maths are not an entry requirement for this course, you can study one of these alongside this course.
