Level 1 Engineering

What is the Course About?

This one‑year programme introduces you to key concepts and practical skills within Engineering, while helping you build confidence and essential skills for learning and employment.

You will complete four mandatory units:

• Being Organised

• Developing a Personal Progression Plan

• Working with Others

• Researching a Topic

Alongside these, you’ll explore different engineering‑related vocational areas. The aim is to broaden your experience and help you make informed choices about your future career pathway.

Will I need a DBS check for this course?

No, you will not need a DBS check for this course.

Will I need any specific resources, uniform and/or kit?

Yes, you will need:

• Clothing suitable for workshop activities

• Safety footwear (steel top-capped boots)

These items are essential for safe participation in practical sessions.

What are the days and hours of the course?

You’ll study for approximately 16 hours per week.

Days and times will vary depending on your chosen subjects.

Once you receive an unconditional offer, your timetable will be given to you during Induction in September.

Will I undertake a work placement as part of the course?

No, however you will have lots of opportunities to build employability skills, and your lecturers have worked in the industry, which means you will benefit from their experience.

How will I be assessed?

Level 1 Engineering will be assessed through internally assessed assessments and practical activities.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. However, it is ideal if you are working towards Entry Level 3 in English and Maths.
