Every year we host a Skills Test where our students show the incredible skills they have learned - battling against each other and the clock! 

This event is open to the public for free - all we ask if that you register your attendance beforehand - please register on Eventbrite here.

 

Tuesday 12th March 2024

Battle of the Pans

Our Hospitality, Catering & Food Service students will be testing their culinary skills using Manx produce. The students will be broken into two groups by the level of their studies. 

  • Level 1 students in the kitchen will produce & serve a vegetarian Manx broth with a wild garlic pesto, students in the bakery will produce two scones with rhubarb jam and whipped Manx cream, and students showing their front of house skills will set up tables for four covers including table decoration and napkin folding. 
  • Level 2 students will produce & serve a main course using Loaghtan lamb as the star ingredient as well as a dessert showcasing ingredients from the Isle of Man Creamery and Laxey Mills. 

Location: Oastan, Homefield Road Campus

Level 1 test: 9.30am - 10.30am

Level 1 judging: 10.30am - 11am

Level 2 test: 11am - 12.45pm

Level 2 judging: 1pm - 1.30pm

Presentation: 2pm

Sports

Our sports students will be analysing sports data and presenting a fitness plan. Please note that this skills test isn't open to the public. 

Location: The Hub, Homefield Road

Test: 10am – 12pm

Judging (presentations of findings to judges) 1pm - 2.30pm 

Winners Presentation 3pm - 3.30pm

Barbering

Watch our barbering students showcase their fading skills

Test: 1.30pm - 2.30pm

Judging & prize presentation: 3pm

Wednesday 13th March 2024

Engineering

See our Engineering students in the workshop undertaking a challenging engineering task. 

Location: Hills Meadow Campus (Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre)

Test: from 9am - visitors welcome from 11am

Thursday 14th March 2024

Computer Game Development

See our IT students develop a computer video game in teams. 

Location: K310 & K313, Homefield Road Campus

Test: 8.30am - 4.30pm

Revved-up

See our motor vehicle students and the Island's future mechanics compete in their challenge. 

Location: William Kennish Motor Vehicle Workshop

Test: 9am - 3pm

Judging: 3pm

Winners presentation: 3pm

Pitch it Perfect: The Ultimate Student Business Challenge!

See our Business students dive headfirst into the exciting realm of product development, creative design and marketing! Teams will create, market and pitch a new product to a panel of business experts in the hope that they will be crowned the next big thing. Join us at the Student Business Challenge, where creativity meets strategy, and innovation is the currency of success! May the boldest emerge as the true titans of tomorrow!

A Day at the Races

Join our Hair & Beauty students as they prepare their models for a day out at the races, including hair, makeup and nails. 

Location: Synnova, Homefield Road Campus

Test: 9.15am – 12pm

Friday 15th March 2024

Construction

See our students from Painting & Decorating, Land Management, Electrical Installation, Carpentry & Joinery, Brickwork and Plumbing in their respective challenges. 

Location: Construction Department, Homefield Road Campus

Test: 8.30am - 4pm (visitors welcome from 10am)

Isle of Man Prison

See the Skills Test activities students from the Isle of Man Prison have undertaken in a display of their work. 

Winners Presentation for Construction & the IOM Prison

Join our final presentation of the week to celebrate the success of our students throughout this exciting week, including announcing the winners of Construction and the IOM Prison.
