New Cookery Lecturer Joins UCM, Bringing a Decade of Culinary Expertise

Having worked in award-winning restaurants across South Africa and the UK, Darien Prophet (centre in photo) joins University College Isle of Man’s (UCM) Hospitality, Catering and Food Service team.

Originally from South Africa, Darien honed her skills in several prestigious, award-winning restaurants before moving to the UK, where she worked in the Michelin starred ‘Artichoke’. More recently, she has been applying her culinary expertise here on the Isle of Man at 14 North.

Now, as part of UCM’s Catering, Hospitality and Food Service team, she will be sharing her knowledge and industry insights with students, helping to develop the next generation of culinary professionals.

Darien’s appointment further strengthens UCM’s outstanding team of lecturers, who each bring extensive experience from the world of fine dining. Robert Hunter (Chef Lecturer) has worked in some of London’s most renowned restaurants, including The Goring Hotel, The Royal Automobile Club and The Gun Restaurant. Irene Berry (Chef Lecturer) has worked under Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton, and Tracy Conway (Front of House Lecturer) trained at Cheshire’s Belle Époque when it held a Michelin star.

UCM Principal, Jesamine Kelly, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Darien to our team, her experience and industry knowledge will no doubt engage and inspire our students, giving them a strong foundation for their future careers.”

UCM’s Catering, Hospitality and Food Service courses offer students hands-on experience and expert led training, equipping them with the skills and confidence to succeed in the fast-paced world of professional cookery.
