What is the Course About?

Vocational Competence Qualification (7270-13)

Vocational Related Qualification (7290-13)

This Level 3 City & Guilds qualification is designed to give students developing a career in the Motor Industry the opportunity to achieve a recognised level of competence. The practical aspect will involve the diagnosis and rectification of complex vehicle faults across all areas. The Level 3 qualification takes one year to complete and the students will attend college one day per week on a part – time day release basis. The delivery of this qualification will take place at the William Kennish building, Greenfield Road, Douglas.

• Competency in Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Engine Faults.

• Competency in Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Chassis System Faults.

• Competency in Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Auxiliary Electrical Faults.

• Competency in Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Engine Mechanical Units.

• Competency in Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Transmission and Driveline Faults.

• Knowledge of Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Engine Faults.

• Knowledge of Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Chassis Faults.

• Knowledge of Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Auxiliary Electrical Faults.

• Knowledge of Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Engine Units.

• Knowledge of Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Transmission and Driveline Faults.

Will I need a DBS check for this course?

No

Will I need any specific resources, uniform and/or kit?

Own laptop, safety boots or shoes with overalls or safety work trousers. All tools and equipment will be provided to complete the practical assessments. https://www.ucm.ac.im/admissions/student-services/money/

What are the days and hours of the course?

One day per week usually on a Thursday for Level three and attend the hours from 9-5pm with a tea break in the morning and afternoon and an hour for lunch. Your confirmed timetable will be given to you during induction week.

Will I undertake work experience as part of the course?

No as you must be in full time employment in a reputable garage/workshop

If you attain a full level three qualification you will be fully qualified

How will I be assessed?

You will have to complete 6 on-line knowledge-based exams and generate an e-portfolio of evidence from the practical workshop-based tasks/assessments set out by City and Guilds, which will have been carried out in the UCM Motor Vehicle Workshop.

Entry requirements

The candidate MUST be employed by a recognised vehicle repairer and have achieved at least 2 GCSE’s Grade D from Mathematics, Science or English or will have successfully achieved a Level Two Diploma that will lead to progression.
