What is the Course About?

This one-year course includes all the required elements to enable you to work effectively as a beauty therapist.

Training is undertaken in a modern training suite with highly qualified tutors who have many years' experience within the beauty industry, ensuring you achieve the highest level of training and maximum employment opportunities in this fast-growing industry.

• Anatomy & Physiology (this is primarily online study)

• Salon health and safety

• Manicure treatments

• Pedicure treatments

• Waxing & Threading treatments

• Facial treatments and skin type analysis

• Eyelash and eyebrow tinting and brow shaping services

• Make up application

Will I need a DBS check for this course?

No

Will I need any specific resources, uniform and/or kit?

2 tunics, 1 pair of black trousers and 1 pair of low heeled black enclosed shoes.

Beauty Kit & Magnifying Head Lamp

You may find it useful once you have started the course to purchase a mobile massage couch and a professional wax starter kit for home practice outside of college.

What are the days and hours of the course?

2.5 days per week plus an additional day if undertaking Maths/English resits alongside. Plus, your confirmed timetable will be given to you during induction week.

Timetable will be given at beginning of the course, during your induction week. It will consist of teaching hours at UCM and work experience.

What are my progression and career options?

Progression to the VTCT NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Massage Course.

Employment opportunities include becoming a beauty therapist in commercial salons or as a mobile therapist.

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments are carried out throughout the year in the purpose-built training salons using high quality, professional products. Underpinning knowledge is checked through oral questions, written assignments and online exams. Evidence is compiled into an e-portfolio, which can be viewed and amended from any smartphone, tablet or computer.

Entry requirements

Three GCSEs, grade 3 (D) or above, including English, and preferably Science and Maths

It is essential to have:-
