City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 in Hospitality and Catering
What is the Course About?
This full-time course is designed for those with basic food preparation and food and beverage service skills to provide the practical techniques and skills alongside the theoretical knowledge and expertise to enable you to achieve two nationally recognised qualifications from City & Guilds.
Chefs will explore food production and preparation, taste profiles and cooking to develop and finish tasty and inspiring dishes to achieve the NVQ Level 2. This is ideal for those who want to progress in their career and specialise within the professional kitchen earning titles such as sauté chef [sauces], Patissiere [pastry chef], Rotisseur [meat chef] or Entremetier [vegetables].
Gaining the Level 2 food and beverage service qualification will develop your confidence and competence making it a wise investment for advancing your career in a vibrant and competitive industry. Team members in the hospitality sector are tasked with providing outstanding customer experiences by identifying their requirements and aligning them with the offering of the establishment while working collaboratively within their team. The primary objective is to guarantee every guest whether in a restaurant, bar, hotel or a banqueting or conference setting feels genuinely welcomed and exceptionally cared for.

•Set of Professional Chef Knives
What are the days and hours of the course?
15 hours over 3 days per week. Your confirmed timetable will be given to you during induction week.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment will take place by 2 methods;
•Tutor observation of practical tasks in which the candidates will prepare and cook food in the professional kitchens and serve food and drinks complying with professional standards within the UCM public restaurant.
•Short underpinning knowledge multiple choice exams on-line on MS Teams that are set by City & Guilds.
Assessment will only take place when the candidate feels confident and ready.
Entry requirements
• A keen interest in Catering, Hospitality and Food Service
• Sufficient relevant work experience for mature learners
• A minimum of three GCSEs, grade D or above. You can re-sit English and Maths alongside this course if you have a D
