What is the Course About?
Assessing Vocational Achievements (Level 3)
Course code: Q3629 (Sept) & Q4707 (Jan) - £845
This qualification is for people working in or looking to assess candidates in the workplace or within education. These qualifications are open to people carrying out assessments in most learning environments including FE, Adult Continuing Learning and Employers who need to assess their employees. They are designed for anyone assessing in all occupational sectors, accredited learning and non-accredited learning qualifications.
The first unit (301) is covered during the first 8 weeks, when the assessment for this is completed, you will organise to be observed in the workplace to complete the assessments for 302 and 303.
The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievements (6317-33) is made up of three Components:
Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (301).
This is a knowledge-only award for those who are starting their journey as an assessor, or those who need to know about assessment practice but are not currently practising. It is taught at UCM and assessed by the creation of a portfolio of evidence.
Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (302).
This is for practitioners who assess the demonstration of competence in a work environment using the following assessment methods: observation/examining work products/oral questioning and discussion/use of witnesses/learner statements/Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This unit is assessed in the workplace by observation.
Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (303).
This is for practitioners who assess knowledge and/or skills in vocationally related subject areas using the following assessment methods: assessments in simulated environments/skills tests/oral and written questions/assignments/projects/case studies/RPL. This unit is assessed in the workplace by observation.
What are my progression and career options?
The next step is to manage the quality process for a course or within an organisation. With some experience of assessing the next step is to complete the City & Guilds Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice. Course code P1044 (Q3101).
How will I be assessed?
Assessment of the knowledge, unit 301, is by assignment portfolio, which is built up over the first 8 weeks.
Entry requirements
You would be expected to be technically competent in the area for which you will be assessing. To complete the assessors qualification, you will need to have candidates to assess in the workplace.
