VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering
What is the Course About?
The VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering is a substantial vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed junior barber. This qualification is based on the Level 2 Barbering National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's leading professional association (The British Barbering Association - BBA) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a junior barber.
This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior barber including health and safety; client consultation; shampooing and conditioning hair; basic haircuts; blow-dry and finishing and cutting facial hair to shape.
It will develop your knowledge, understanding and skills to enable you to advise and consult with men on the type of haircut and facial hair shaping the way they want, but just as importantly what is suitable for them.

Will I need a DBS check for this course?
No
Will I need any specific resources, uniform and/or kit?
•You will be required to dress as a professional barber, for example, a short sleeved plain black shirt or t-shirt with black trousers/skirt or a black dress and enclosed flat shoes.
•You will be given an order form for a Level 2 Barbering Kit which is essential to purchase and will include everything you need to complete the course. The approximate kit cost is £500.00
What are the days and hours of the course?
12 hours per week, over two days to include a minimum of one evening (Tuesday and / or Wednesday) until 8:15pm. Your confirmed timetable will be given to you during induction week.
Will I undertake work experience as part of the course?
Yes, Work Experience will be a mandatory part of the course.

What are my progression and career options?
Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings or in a barbershop or unisex hair salon.
How will I be assessed?
Practical assessments will be undertaken within commercial barber salons at UCM throughout the course. The underpinning knowledge is assessed by oral questions, internally set and externally set multiple choice exams. All practical and theoretical evidence is compiled within an online E-Portfolio on VTCT’s Manage Assess Platform.
Entry requirements
3 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above (must include English).
•You should have a degree of artistic skill and flair, a keen interest in Barbering and excellent communication skills.
•You will need a willingness to learn, a positive attitude and ability to be a team player.
•Good IT skills are required for the creation of underpinning knowledge and E-Portfolio.
