VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
What is the Course About?
This course consists of practical training in our realistic salon environment alongside participating in work experience within a local salon. This combines with developing your theoretical knowledge and understanding in all aspects of level 2 hairdressing.
This course is also suitable as a refresher course for those looking to return to the hairdressing industry after a career break.
What subjects/units/modules* will I study?
•Style and finish hair (blow drying)
•Set and dress hair
•Cut hair using basic techniques
•Colour and lighten hair
•Advise and consult with clients
•Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
•Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
•Perm and neutralise hair
Will I need a DBS check for this course?
No
Will I need any specific resources, uniform and/or kit?
You will be given order forms of the following to be ordered ready for starting in September:-
2 salon tunics
Level 2 hairdressing kit which will include everything you need to complete the course.

You will need to ensure you are wearing low heeled enclosed shoes as part of your uniform.
What are the days and hours of the course?
2 days per week plus and additional day undertaking work placement within a hair salon. Your confirmed timetable will be given to you during induction week.
What are my progression and career options?
Progress to the VTCT NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing course or Level 3 Upskilling Short courses
Employment in salons worldwide.
How will I be assessed?
Practical assessments will be assessed through observations throughout the course within the Synnova Training Salon using professional products. The under-pinning knowledge is assessed by oral questions, internal and external set multiple-choice exams.
Entry requirements
3 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above (must include English) OR a previous Level 2 Hairdressing Qualification. It is essential to have an artistic flair and a keen interest in hairdressing, excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and an ability be a team player.
