City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Motor Vehicle Studies
What is the Course About?
The Level 1 City & Guilds Diploma in Motor Vehicle Maintenance is a course designed to give you awareness of all major operating systems of a light vehicle. Your day will be split doing theory sessions in the classroom using Electude and in practical you will develop a clear understanding of the maintenance procedures required to maintain modern day vehicles in our purpose built workshop at the William Kennish Building, Greenfield Road, Douglas.
What Subjects will I Study?
• Skills in health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment
• Skills to support working relationships in the automotive work environment
• Knowledge of health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive workshop
• Knowledge to support working relationships in the automotive workshop
• Introduction to vehicle technology and workshop methods and processes
• Skills in inspection, repair and replacement of standard light vehicle tyres
• Carry out basic vehicle maintenance.
Will I need a DBS check for this course?
No
Will I need any specific resources, uniform and/or kit?
Own laptop, safety boots or shoes with overalls or safety work trousers preferably. Some PPE may be provided. All tools and equipment will be provided to complete the practical assessments. Money
What are the days and hours of the course?
One day per week and an additional morning on another day. You will attend the hours from 9.00am-4.30pm with a tea break in the morning and afternoon and an hour for lunch. Your confirmed timetable will be given to you during induction week also showing the days you will attend college
Will I undertake work experience as part of the course?
No, but are encouraged to find a work placement as is essential for progression to level two

Entry requirements
This course is aimed at the age range of between 16-19 years old. This course is open to individuals who have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the motor vehicle industry. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to learning, good attendance, and a positive attitude toward practical work and teamwork. While no formal qualifications are required, it is desirable for candidates to have achieved at least a D in English and Maths or be working towards these. An initial assessment may be conducted to ensure the course is suitable for the applicant’s current ability and learning needs.
