Health, Social Care & Childcare

This programme area offers courses in health & social care and childcare at Level 2 and Level 3. The level 2 programme is equivalent to three GCSEs and the full- time level 3 programmes carry a maximum UCAS tariff of 168 points, equivalent to three A-Levels at Grade A*.

Our team in this programme area is made up of vocational experts from a number of disciplines including care, nursing and experienced Early Years practitioners. Student success rates are well above national averages and, as well as gaining direct employment in the sector, our students have progressed to university to then pursue careers in nursing, midwifery, occupational therapy and many other related disciplines. Substantial work placements are an integral feature of our courses and every year our provision is highlighted for its quality by our awarding bodies.

  • Access to Higher Education Diploma Humanities (Level 3)
    ENTRY:

    The entry requirements for the Diploma courses are designed to make sure that individuals are ready for the demands of the course and are able to fulfil the requirements for progression onto their intended degree course.

    Typically entry requirements include:

    GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or equivalent and above. Applicants who possess Functional Skills English and Maths at Level 2 may also meet the minimum entry requirements.

    It is also recommended that all applicants check the specific entry requirements of their preferred universities.

    For extenuating/exceptional circumstances the entry requirements may be reviewed by the programme team.

  • Diploma in Childcare & Education (NCFE CACHE Technical Level 3 Early Years Educator)
    ENTRY:
    • Four GCSEs at grade C or above,including Mathematics and English and a basic level of ICT skills.

    • A genuine desire to work with children and young people.

    • Experience of working with children and young people is advantageous.

    • A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to ensure that you are suitable to work with children and a health check will need to be completed prior to the start of the course.

  • Extended Certificate in Health & Social Care (BTEC Level 2 NQF)
    ENTRY:
    • A minimum of three GCSE at grades D and above also either English or Maths at GCSE grade C or above.

    • Must also be able to demonstrate a genuine desire to follow a career in the care sector.

    • A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to ensure that you are suitable to work with children and a health check will need to be completed prior to the start of the course.

  • Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (BTEC Level 3)
    ENTRY:
    • Four GCSEs at grade C or above, two of which must be Maths and English; a Science GCSE would be advantageous.

    • You will also be required to complete a successful interview.

    • A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to ensure that you are suitable to work with children and a health check will need to be completed prior to the start of the course.
